The first honors of the 26th Annual Golden Nole Awards were presented on Tuesday night by the FSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council through the Student-Athlete Development Instagram. Four different awards were given to a male and female student-athlete in each category, three of which were voted on by their peers.
“All of these award recipients exude our departmental value proposition which is to serve, lead and live Unconquered,” FSU assistant athletic director for student-athlete development Ashton Henderson said. “Our staff knows the best is yet to come for all of them. They all worked extremely hard throughout the year to earn this recognition.”
Senior Sensation Award: Trent Forrest – Basketball; Devan Hultquist – Beach Volleyball
Goes to the senior student-athletes that are most likely to make an impact after graduation.
Trent Forrest | GR | Guard | Chipley, Fla.
Forrestled the Seminoles to three NCAA Tournaments, the 2020 ACC Championship and to the championship of the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic. He earned All-ACC Second-Team honors and was named to the All-ACC Defensive Team and in 2019 earned All-NCAA Tournament West Regional honors. Forrest earned his undergraduate degree in just 3 ½ years and began graduate school at Florida State during the final semester of his playing career.
Devan Hultquist | rSR |Tallahassee, Fla.
Hultquist was a team captain that contributed in all aspects in and out of the sand. Although she did not see much playing time, she led by example with a high academic performance and countless community service hours. She is one of the SAAC representatives for beach volleyball.
InspiratioNOLE Award: Bryn Nahrung – Men’s Tennis; Ka’Tia Seymour – Track & Field
Awarded to Seminoles who are leaders; not necessarily defined by a position or title, but by their ability to lead by example.
Bryn Nahrung | SO | Queensland, Australia
Recently elected vice president of SAAC, Nahrung has proven to be a leader both on and off the tennis court. Nahrung contributed a 9-6 record in doubles this season. He led and organized a “No Shave November” campaign to raise awareness for men’s mental health, has taken initiative as the SAAC representative for Seminole Boosters, and actively remains involved in the community.
Ka’Tia Seymour | JR | Sprints| Palatka, Fla.
The “Queen of ACC Sprints” won her record third consecutive ACC Indoor Championship Track MVP honor after winning the 60- and 200-meter dashes. She was honored as the ACC Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Year. A fully engaged team leader, the junior embodies what it means to be a “True Seminole”
Unconquered Award: Jaiden Lars-Woodbey – Football; Tiana Jackson – Volleyball
This award is given to those that represent and embody the Seminole spirit with engagement in athletic events, programming and student-athlete culture.
Tiana Jackson | JR | Outside Hitter| St. Louis, Mo.
Knee injuries may have ended the career of Jackson on the court, but her passion for Florida State Volleyball could not be extinguished as she moved into a role as the Volleyball Director of Operations. She successfully helped coordinate numerous aspects of the logistics and operations for the 2019 team.
Jaiden-Lars Woodbey | SO | Defensive Back | Fontana, Calif.
Lars-Woodbey has started each of his 16 career appearances. Heading into his redshirt sophomore season in 2020 after a season-ending injury early in the 2019 campaign, Lars-Woodbey has logged 77 career tackles, nine pass breakups and one forced fumble. He is on track to earn his bachelor’s degree later this year.
Doc Fauls Award: Cole Minshew – Football; Anna Shelnutt – Softball
The Doc Fauls Award, which was established in 1999 recognizes the student athlete that has overcome the most adversity to get back in the lineup to represent Florida State. The athletic training staff selected the award winners. Named after Don Fauls, the head athletic trainer at Florida State University from 1954-1986, he touched the lives of many and consistently treated everyone in an honest, professional manner. He was always willing to take the necessary time to help the athletes through the physical and emotional pain that often came with participation in intercollegiate athletics.
Cole Minshew | rSR | Offensive Line | Pridgen, Ga.
Prior to his senior season, Minshew had a damaged disk in his neck surgically removed and worked tirelessly to get back on the field. After missing the first five games in 2019, Minshew played against Clemson and Wake Forest before starting the final six games of the season at right guard, helping the Seminoles to a Sun Bowl appearance.
Anna Shelnutt | SR | Catcher | Franklin, Ga.
After an initial shoulder injury during the 2018 season, Anna Shelnutt continued to play through the pain, until undergoing surgery in June 2019 to clear up several issues. The initial recovery time was supposed to be 8-9 months, and even that was an optimistic forecast, which put her ability to play at all in 2020 in jeopardy. However, with consistent rehab and recovery efforts throughout the fall and winter, she was cleared for play at the beginning of February 2020, just in time for the season opener. On February 8, she hit a three-run home run against No. 1 Alabama as the Seminoles defeated the Crimson Tide.
