Florida State University announced Tuesday the cancellation of activities in response to the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The following activities have been cancelled as a precautionary measure and in direct compliance with the latest Federal, State, Atlantic Coast Conference and University guidelines:
- All spring sports seasons
- Spring Garnet and Gold Football Game and concert (previously scheduled for April 18)
- Seminole Boosters Spring Tour event series (previously scheduled April 21-May 21)
“Speaking for both Athletics and Seminole Boosters, we are taking important steps to ensure the health and safety of all citizens,” FSU Director of Athletics David Coburn said. “It is clear that discouraging gatherings of more than 10 people is essential in limiting the spread of the virus.”
While difficult, the severe measures are prudent.
“The health concerns, along with the uncertain logistics of planning a tour where thousands of our supporters in multiple cities would attend, left us with no choice but to cancel,” said Andy Miller, President and CEO of Seminole Boosters. “The entire athletic family – student-athletes, donors and administration – have been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. While it saddens all of us that our very-dedicated supporters aren’t able to gather to watch our hardworking student-athletes in competition, the health and wellbeing of our entire FSU community – student-athletes and fans – must come first.”
“The Seminole Boosters staff is working with the athletic department to develop different ways we can engage with our fans online during this time. I look forward to sharing more information in the coming days.”
In acknowledgement of the current circumstances, the football season ticket deadline has been moved back to May 1 while the annual fund deadline remains August 31.
“Seminole Boosters is open and our staff is ready to be of assistance,” Miller said. “Like many other American enterprises we are taking severe measures now in an effort to return to normalcy as soon as possible. We look forward to hosting our supporters on campus again and appreciate your understanding and support as we go through this together.”
The Athletic Ticket Office and Seminole Boosters Office are open and available to answer donor and fan questions at (850) 644-1830.
